Email Week of Jan 26

Hello Swimmers, Divers, and Parents/Guardians,

Conference Meet this Thursday, Friday, Saturday at Wakefield High School in Arlington.  Meet announcement with details attached.

Conference Team:  Practice is not optional. You need to be in the water in order for us to taper you and give you the best shot at getting a best time, qualifying for finals on Saturday, and advancing to regionals. We will have practice on Thursday at our regular time.  A bus will be provided to and from Marshall.  You can also meet us at the pool.

Tuesday’s bus will leave at 2:30 instead of 2:45. Practice is still at our regular time.

Divers:  Please speak with Coach Perantoni about transportation to and from the dive meet on Thursday.

On Friday and Saturday:  Swimmers must be at school by 2:45 to catch the bus. All swimmers and divers must ride the bus to and from the meet.  If parents would like to take their athletes home from the meet, they must sign the athlete out before leaving.  Athletes may only go home with their own parent unless arrangements are made in advance.

If you are not swimming or diving at the conference meet, we still encourage you to come and support the team.  We’d love everyone to come support our divers on Thursday at Wakefield. It’s a really fun meet and we all perform better with the support of our teammates. Friday we will have enough room for non-meet swimmers to ride the bus with the team.  On Thursday and Saturday, you’d have to meet us at Wakefield High School.

We can’t thank you enough for all of your support.

Feel free to contact us at any time!

Sincerely,

Julie Curtin jacurtin@fcps.edu

Hello Swimmers, Divers, and Parents/Guardians,

Thank you to everyone for your hard work at our meet on Friday.

Results v. South Lakes are attached.

IMPORTANT:  We have to submit our Conference Meet lineup on Saturday, so we need to know NOW if there is any reason you would not be able to attend the conference meet (takes place Fri., Jan. 30 & Sat., Jan. 31). Swimmers must be available Friday and Saturday. It is IMPERATIVE that we know now because we can make NO CHANGES once the lineup is submitted.

Volunteer Sign-Up

We are still looking for a few volunteers for this Friday’s meet against Stone Bridge.

Please also consider filling positions for the conference meet.  The lineup will not be set until January 25th, but if you/your swimmer have swum at the district/conference meet in the past, there is a good chance he/she will swim at our conference meet this year.  For new swimmers: if you consistently swim in individual events, you have a good chance of swimming in the conference meet.  We only get one entry for relays, so we will make those decisions based on where we think we’ll do the best.  The same goes for decisions around writing the conference lineup. We enter swimmers where we think we’ll do the best as a team and have the best chances for advancing to regionals.

Thank you so much for everything you’ve already done! http://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0e4facac2eaa8-swim

Pasta party Thursday night at the Choksis’.

2325 Chestnut Hill Avenue,

Falls Church, VA

There is a pretty big driveway, so people can park in that, but if not, please park in the cul-de-sac at the end of the street and walk back up to the house.

Plan to bring the following to share. Please have your dish prepared and ready to go with serving utensils, if necessary.

Almaraz-Roman through Cusack: side dish, salad, or bread

DeLong through Martin: appetizer or dessert

Martinez-Diaz through Yip: beverages (no soda)

Swim & Dive Meet Friday v. South Lakes, home at Spring Hill.  6:30 pm. Senior Night! We will recognize our seniors with their parents at 6:30. Seniors—we will get necessary information from you during the week.  (A rough timeline:  6:00—dive warmups, 6:30—senior recognition, 6:45ish—dive begins, swim warmups shortly thereafter, medley relays at the conclusion of diving).

Swimmers and Divers must be at school by 5:00 to catch the bus.  All swimmers and divers must ride the bus to and from the meet.  If parents would like to take their athletes home from the meet, they must sign the athlete out before leaving.  Athletes may only go home with their own parent unless arrangements are made in advance.

We, as coaches will do our best to have swimmers in at least one event.  We will hopefully have the line-up finished before Friday.  Even if we do, the line up can change all the way up until start time and relays can change throughout the meet.  All swimmers should be prepared to swim on Friday.  We need to know now if you’re unable to attend the meet for any reason.

We can’t thank you enough for all of your support.

Hello Swimmers, Divers, and Parents/Guardians,

Thanks to everyone for a great first week back!  Even coming off the break, we did have a handful of best times (including those who swam events for the first time this season).  If you were a little sedentary over break, now is the time to be committed to doing your best at practice to continue to improve.  We only have two regular season meets left!

Results v. Langley are attached.

Please also consider filling positions for the conference meet; we’ll be adding those positions to Sign Up Genius soon. Hello Swimmers, Divers, and Parents/Guardians,

Here’s what’s happening this week:

Volunteer Sign-Up

Our Sign-Up Genius site is about to go live!  Look for an email from Tim Gardner.  The link will also be posted to our swim and dive site at gcmstatesmenathletics.org. Please look through the swim meets and volunteer where you are able.  We are asking for all parents/guardians to volunteer.

We are looking for a parent to volunteer to coordinate a Ledo’s Night, Chipotle Night, or similar fundraiser.  This is a great opportunity to help if you are unable to volunteer for positions during swim and dive meets.

Team pictures will be on December 11th at the pool during practice. Picture forms will be available with Coach Hoch at practice. We will wear our team suits.

Required Event:  Tree Sales, Sat. December 6th.  Athletes have been signing up at practice.  Parents:  please email if you are able to volunteer for a shift.  Times:  9:45-1, 12:45-4, 3:45-7.

Please get team dues in, if you haven’t already.

No pasta party this week.

State Cuts:  State Qualifying Standards are attached and posted to our site.  Regional qualifying standards are still being calculated and we will notify you when those are available.

Swim & Dive Meet Friday v. Fairfax, home at Providence.  6:30 pm

We will be wearing team suits and caps at the meet and those will be distributed at Thursday’s practice.

Swimmers and divers should wear team warm ups to school on Friday and sign up outside of Coach Curtin’s room (B202) for spirit wear points.  Team warm ups are being distributed this week by Coach Hoch in the team storage room located next to the athletic training room after school.

Email Week of Nov 24

Hello Swimmers, Divers, and Parents/Guardians,

Welcome to the 2014-2015 season!  The coaches are extremely excited to be working with this year’s team. This email will provide some information on the upcoming swim season.  We will be communicating mainly through email, so please check often.  The handbook and the calendar are excellent resources (attached here), and are available at gcmstatemensports.org on our swim and dive page.

Practice this week:  This week we will only be practicing on Monday and Tuesday.  The bus on Tuesday will depart at 2:30 because it has to come back here to pick up wrestling. Please don’t miss the bus. Even when we don’t have practice, we encourage you to work out.  The pool would be ideal, but if that’s not an option, please run, walk, bike, or lift.

Dues:  Please bring swim and dive dues to Coach Hochstrasser at school or at the pool.  Dues are $35 and go toward the maintenance of the team (outlined in the handbook). We collect dues instead of taking on the challenges of team fundraising.

Pasta Parties:  We’ll have pasta parties on the Thursdays before the meets, after practice, at approximately 5:30/6:00, at either a team member’s house or back at school.  The host(s) will be responsible for providing the pasta, and the rest of the team members will each bring a dish/beverage.  (We’ll send out a weekly email dividing the team up by last name).  If you’d like to host with another family or families, that would be great, too, as opening your home to us is extremely generous, and the other family/families could help prepare the pasta.  The available dates for our pasta parties are: Dec. 4, Dec. 11, Jan. 8, Jan. 15, and Jan. 22.  If there’s an interest, we can also have a pasta party on Jan. 28 or 29 before the conference meet.  Please email Coach Curtin or sign up throughout the season on Sign Up Genius if you would like to host. Please include the date in which you are interested.  Also, please let us know if you’ll be hosting at your house, or if you’re interested in hosting at the school.  First replies get first choices of dates.

First Meet:  Our first meet is December 5th, home at Providence v. Fairfax.  Look for an email from Tim Gardner (our generous volunteer coordinator) for links to our Sign Up Genius page.

Required Event—Christmas Tree Sales:  GCM Boosters will be doing the Christmas Tree Sales again this year and our date to volunteer is December 6th.  This is a required fundraising opportunity to support the organization that supports us.  There will be three time slots (9:45-1:00, 12:45-4:00, 3:45-7:00). We’re asking for athletes and parents to volunteer.  Swimmers/divers will sign up during practice, and parents can volunteer via email.

We wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving and we can’t thank you enough for your support of the team.  We couldn’t do it without you.

Feel free to contact us at any time!

Sincerely,

Just a reminder that Meet the Coaches Night is tomorrow, Wednesday, Nov. 18, beginning at 6:30 in the cafeteria.  After the general session, we will break out into individual sports to discuss expectations for the season and coordinate volunteers.  As many of you know, swim and dive would not survive without parent volunteers.  We get no paid officials.  If you can swing it, please have someone attend to represent your athlete.  If you are unable to attend, please continue to check our website (http://gcmstatesmensports.org/)and your email for updates.

Thank you,
